Use your FSA account to pay for Tutoring

Did you know?

Did you know that if you have a Health Care Flexible Spending Account (HC FSA) through your employer that you could potentially use those funds to be reimbursed for tutoring for yourself or your dependents?

How?

According to fsafeds.gov, “you can use your Health Care FSA (HC FSA) funds to pay for a wide variety of health care products and services for you, your spouse, and your dependents.” In order to qualify the person receiving the tutoring will need documented diagnosis (with a DSM-5 code). This code can be given by a doctor, licensed psychiatrist or psychologist; but is usually not given by a public school. Once you have the DSM diagnosis, your doctor will need to write a letter of medical necessity for tutoring. With your diagnosis and letter of medical necessity in hand you can submit your tutoring invoice for reimbursement through your FSA account.

Need Help?

If you need help with this process and you’re a client of mine, I am happy to connect you with other parents who have successfully navigated this process. It takes some time and investment to get the process started, but once you’ve done the work your FSA benefits can be used to help your child get the help they need.
